Best car charger? CTEK MXS 5.0 and Noco Genius5 tested.

Last modified on:

TLDR: Both Noco and CTEK have a long pedigree in manufacturing chargers for batteries, so you are going to get a quality product. The CTEK has been around longer and has a much longer warranty period. Pricing of the CTEK is slightly cheaper too. Unless you manage to bag the Noco Genius5 for a bargain, or you really need to be able to charge 6v and lithium batteries, then I would choose the CTEK MXS 5.0.

I’m really confused about the recommendation. This says if you need to charged lithium they recommend the CTEK but CTEK MX5s doesn’t seem to be capable of doing Lithium and it’s also not recommend.

    Can you confirm.

Hi Jason – reading it back the wording/phrasing could be clearer. If you don’t need to charge lithium or 6v batteries then I would get the CTEK. However there isn’t much between them – they are both very good.

    What about the Noco Genius10?

Is is the same price as the MXS on Amazon.

But obviously the Noco is 10amps for the 5amps of the CTEK.

Which would you go with then? For an AGM battery

Perhaps that price was a temporary deal as I can’t see the Noco Genius10 for less than about £120 (including delivery). If you have a need to charge very large batteries, or you want to be able to charge batteries much faster, then 10 amps would clearly be an advantage.
