Note: this is an archive post and the information may no longer be current or up to date. Also, Plex media server has since become the market leader for media streaming from your local network.
TVersity allows you to stream media from your PC to your device (PS3, PSP, xbox, iPhone, laptop) via your local network or the internet by transcoding it first – helpful if you can’t decide which video’s to take with you, or if you don’t always have time to sync your media.
Unfortunately it can be difficult to get TVersity to stream files that need to be transcoded before being sent to your iPhone – even if you already have them in the right format for playback in iTunes. To get media to stream you might first have to turn off transcoding. But this means TVersity wont then play nicely with your PS3 or xbox (e.g. if you don’t have the right file type for that device)
To solve this problem I have created a customised TVersity profile file that instructs TVersity to skip transcoding for iPhone for certain, recognised formats, but to still do the usual encoding for other devices.
You can find a copy of it here (Right click, ‘Download as..’) [removed as no longer relevant].
I recommend you backup your original profiles.xml file (found in the folder: program files > TVersity > Media Server) first and of course I accept no responsibility in the event that things go tits-up.
