No more planes (for a while?)

It wouldn’t be unexpected for this icelandic volcano to carry on erupting for months – this is mother nature after all – and looking at the jet stream forecasts the wind direction won’t change until at least next sunday when some more westerly atlantic winds might shift the ash further east.

Basically, what I’m saying is that this could go on for wee while yet and may cause havoc all through the summer. I suspect there will be quite a few business’ in the UK and abroad having a massive rethink tomorrow morning in regards to travel arrangements, sourcing inputs/customers and strategy in general!

Once again, mother nature has done a good job at showing up how fragile our economies and infrastructure really are. It’s also quite a good slap in the face for all of us that have become accustomed to cheap short haul flights abroad and I hazard a guess that there won’t be quite so many airlines offering cheap flights (or just not so many airlines in general) in about a months time!

Although, with 17,000 flights already cancelled Europe wide, this should put a bit of a dent into the demand for oil and may lower prices. I, like most of us, could really do with lower prices at the pumps!!
